Look down the side of your car in direct sun and you will probably spot them: fine, spidery circles in the paint that vanish in the shade and reappear the second the light hits. Those swirl marks, along with scratches, water spots, and the flat, tired look older paint takes on, are what paint correction is built to remove. Not hide. Remove.
This is the part a lot of Boston drivers get wrong, so it is worth saying plainly. Wax and quick shine products cover imperfections for a week or two. Correction is machine polishing that levels the clear coat itself, so the flaw is actually gone instead of filled in until the next wash. We do it fully mobile, in your driveway or at your office, so a job that takes hours, sometimes a full day, does not cost you a single trip to a shop.
Where the swirls actually come from
Most swirl marks are self inflicted, and not because anyone was careless on purpose. They come from washing: a grubby wash mitt, a dusty drying towel, or an automatic tunnel wash dragging fine grit across the paint in tiny circles. Every pass leaves shallow scratches in the clear coat, and in sunlight they read as a haze or a web. New England piles on its own damage, with road salt, sand, and winter grime grinding against the surface all season.
That is why correction is not a magic trick you do once and forget. It removes what is on the paint now. Good washing habits afterward are what keep it gone.
What paint correction can and cannot do
Here is the honest version, because overpromising helps nobody. Light to moderate swirls, wash marring, water spots, and shallow scratches all correct well. Oxidation and that dull, faded look come back to depth and color. Deep scratches that have gone through the clear coat and into the color underneath cannot be fully polished out, because there is no clear coat left to level. We can soften how they catch the eye, but we will not tell you they will vanish.
Every panel gets read before we touch it. We use paint thickness gauges to see how much clear coat we have to work with, because clear coat is finite and polishing removes a little of it each pass. Push too far and you burn through, which is a far worse problem than the swirls you started with. Two cars of the same model can need completely different approaches depending on age, paint hardness, and how they were looked after.
Single stage or two stage: matching the work to the paint
We do not sell a fixed menu. We match the level of correction to what your paint actually needs.
Single stage correction is one polishing pass. It clears roughly half of the visible defects and is the right call for paint in decent shape that just needs the haze and light swirls taken out. It is quicker and gentler on the clear coat.
Two stage correction uses a cutting compound first to level deeper scratches and heavier swirls, then a finer polish to refine the surface and bring the gloss up. It removes eighty percent or more of the defects and suits paint that is moderately to badly marked. Heavily neglected paint sometimes needs more than that, and we will tell you where the sensible stopping point is for your car rather than chasing the last few percent at the paint’s expense.
How we work, step by step
Deep prep first. Before any polishing, the car gets a full wash, the wheels cleaned, an iron decontamination pass to dissolve embedded brake dust, and a clay bar pass to lift bonded contaminants. Polishing dirty paint just grinds grit back into it, so this stage is not optional.
Precision polishing. Working panel by panel with a machine polisher, we level the imperfections using the right compound and pad for your paint, checking our progress and our depth readings as we go. This is the slow, careful part, and it is where the result is won or lost.
Protection to lock it in. Freshly corrected paint is bare and deserves a barrier. A sealant lasts a few months. A ceramic coating lasts years, sheds water and grime, blocks UV, and makes upkeep far easier. This is the natural moment to add one, since the paint is already prepped and flawless underneath.
Why finish with ceramic coating
Correction gets the paint perfect. It does not keep it that way on its own. Adding a ceramic coating right after is how you protect the work you just paid for. Will it remove every scratch?
